New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary, S Krishnan, inaugurated the first Workshop on MeitY-National Science Foundation (NSF), USA Joint Call for R&D Proposals under the MeitY-NSF Research Collaboration in New Delhi on November 02, 2023. The workshop spanning two days serves as a platform for US and Indian researchers to collaborate on research projects.
The collaboration between MeitY and NSF underscores the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic technology partnership, capitalizing on the research capabilities of their respective teams. Teams of investigators from the US and India are strongly encouraged to establish partnerships with testbed providers, local communities, and industry partners to ensure the success of their projects.
MeitY and NSF formalized their Research Collaboration Implementation Arrangement (IA) in May 2023. This research initiative is aligned with mutual interests outlined in the Joint Statement issued by the Governments of India and the United States during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in June 2023.
The inaugural Joint Call for research proposals will consider submissions in the domains of semiconductor research, next-generation communication technologies, networks, systems, cybersecurity, sustainability and green technologies, and Intelligent Transportation Systems. Proposal submissions commenced on August 21, 2023, and the deadline for submission is January 05, 2024.
The first day of the workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 200 researchers and start-ups from both countries, as well as officials from NSF, the US Embassy, and senior MeitY representatives.
The workshop featured multiple sessions focusing on semiconductor research, industry-university interactions, and cybersecurity. Parallel break-out sessions were conducted in the five identified areas of research collaboration, drawing active engagement from researchers on both sides.
