In a bid to transform Odisha into a major data center hub by 2025, the state cabinet sanctioned Data-Center Policy recently, offering a slew of incentives including land, power capital subsidy, and state GST Exemption. State’s Secretary for Electronics and Information Technology Manoj Mishra confirmed that the policy attempts to bring on a favorable environment to speeding-up investments.

Mishra further added that this addition in policy perspective for restructuring Odisha as the data-center hub by attracting more and more investors, making it investor’s favorite destination, with world-class infrastructure and best business ambiance.

While the data-center market has witnessed immense growth over the past decade, the policy is expected to facilitate 20 percent of fixed capital investment amounting to INR 25 crores per data center unit as an infrastructure development subsidy. The policy holds significance because of the increase in data processing due to accelerated digitalization, mobile banking, digital education, digital entertainment, and others.

The policy also had the state government announce exemption of electricity and inspection fees for a period of 10 years besides the investors being entitled to subsidy on electricity bills at 30 percent for 5 years and reimbursement on energy audit for up to INR 2 lakhs.
