Nepal: A devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck the northwestern regions of Nepal late on Friday night, resulting in the loss of at least 140 lives and leaving numerous individuals injured. The earthquake’s effects were felt as far as New Delhi, the capital of India, and the National Capital Region (NCR), located over 800 kilometers (500 miles) away.

Authorities have expressed concerns that the death toll may increase due to disrupted communication with many of the affected areas, as reported by the news agency PTI.

Initially, the US Geological Survey reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 5.6, with a depth of 11 miles. Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring & Research Center pinpointed the epicenter in Jajarkot, situated approximately 250 miles northeast of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

As of Saturday, the districts most severely impacted by the earthquake are Jajarkot and West Rukum. Jajarkot, in particular, has recorded 92 fatalities, as disclosed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Santosh Roka of Jajarkot district, as reported by The Kathmandu Post.
