Sikkim, November 7: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the operational preparedness of the Trishakti Corps in Sikkim on Saturday. He was briefed on infrastructure development along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and on the deployment of modern equipment and emerging technologies, and he expressed satisfaction with the corps’ readiness.
Praise for border development work
Singh praised the corps for its contribution to nation-building through border infrastructure and community welfare programmes.
Remarks to troops at Barahkhana
Addressing soldiers at a Diwali event at Barahkhana, he praised their bravery and professionalism. He described Sikkim as a key hub for moving supplies, weapons, medical equipment and personnel to forward posts, and said this demands round-the-clock readiness.
Supply chains, self-reliance and new threats
Singh said the government is strengthening supply chains, has increased budget allocations for roads, tunnels and border infrastructure, and is pushing for self-reliance. He said startups and industry are developing drones and counter-drone systems, while the forces are training in drone operations and cyber security.
He listed hybrid and proxy warfare, cyberattacks, drone incursions and information warfare among the modern threats, and urged personnel to stay alert on all fronts. Earlier on Saturday, he made similar points at Bagdogra Air Force Station, where he asked the forces to keep high operational readiness.
Soldiers’ wellbeing
The minister asked officers to spend quality time with their soldiers and stressed the importance of their mental and emotional wellbeing. He described the Northeast as India’s first edge rather than its last.
