New Delhi, November 7: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday reviewed the Rail Bhawan war room, the control centre Indian Railways is using during the festive season to follow passenger movement and train running in real time. The review focused on how technology is helping officials respond to crowding and delays.
What the Rail Bhawan war room monitors
The war room receives live video feeds from station platforms, foot-over bridges and station premises. Officials can zoom into individual CCTV feeds when they need a closer look at a particular spot.
Artificial-intelligence tools and real-time data are also used to follow train movements and delays. Officials can use this information to deal with disruptions as they arise and to improve punctuality.
Crowd management at stations
Vaishnaw said Indian Railways has strengthened its festive arrangements with improved crowd management. Dedicated passenger holding areas have been set up at about 20 stations, and roughly 700 AI-enabled cameras are part of the arrangements.
More special trains than last year
The Railways is running over 18,000 additional special trains this season, compared with about 12,000 last year. Preparations for the festive rush began around six months in advance.
Earlier this month, Vaishnaw also reviewed the manufacturing of the B28 bullet train in Bengaluru, as reported by Medilytix.
